Renaming blog
I think I need to rename my blog. Lately this place has been less about karate and more about sickness. I’m thinking I should rename it "Barfed on Mama" or "Co-pay Blues" or something. I was unable to make it to class again.
We got back from the hospital about two hours ago. Lil C is very sick. She spiked a fever of 105.4 today after her nap and had me an absolute wreck. The doctor couldn’t see her until this evening. He checked her out thoroughly and decided to do a blood count. No big deal right? A finger stick and done, except Lil C’s finger stick turned into two finger sticks. When they wanted to do a third after she had thrown up all over the exam room, my husband and I said "NO!".
The doctor came in, agreed with our decision and sent us to the hospital to rule out pneumonia. The x-ray process was a nightmare. Imagine a 19 month old baby being strapped into a plastic tube with her arms straight above her head. I almost cried, but I knew I had to try to keep her from being a complete wreck. My efforts were futile, but the x-ray came back negative.
Tomorrow, we fill a prescription to combat the beginnings of an ear infection and hope that the rest of this stuff is just viral.
Of course, you know what that means right?
You’ll also be able to label this blog, "Black Belt Mama Barfs". One thing is for sure; I’ll either be cleaning it up or throwing up at some point this week.
And note to self: In the future, skip feeding ill child spinach. . . and I thought spaghetti was bad.
Poor lil C!! I’m glad that she hasn’t picked up pneumonia – it’s a nasty thing. I hope that it turns out to be something that’s going to burn itself out pretty quickly (and not pass around the rest of you!!)
I know how hard it is to do all the tests and x-rays (now admittedly lil P is very good at these now and we actually managed to get her standing up the last time she needed chest xrays – ok so it took 4 of us to position her!! and finger sticks aren’t much fun either – we have to do her at least once a week – and if we don’t get a good drop you have to try another finger – I managed to get thru’ 6 fingers in one session once – but she is pretty patient with the inept Daddy!) – but always stay strong and keep a smile for them – after all – they’ll pretty much have forgotten about it by the next day! (I wish I was a kid again! 🙂 )
Good luck. Sick babies are no fun!
Hang in there. I hope the little one gets well soon!
Oh, that’s too bad. The Branch had x-rays several months ago and it wasn’t easy to hold him still either. Hopefully your baby will get better real soon.
105.4?! I hope they figure out what caused that and she gets over it soon!
Oh, poor Lil C and even more so, poor BBM! I hope she starts feeling better soon without any more trips to the hospital and you manage to avoid whichever germ has entered your home this time.
I have my first kid coming in the next couple of weeks, can’t wait to have to deal with this kinda stuff…Don’t give up the ship!
Ugh. We had something similar and horrid when Maya was little. Had to hold her down while the idiots tried to catheterize her, which did NOT go well. GRRR. Thankfully, she doesn’t remember, and only Ted and I were scarred by the experience.
A lot of antibiotics later, she was fine. But she was on an IV for 2 days, which SUCKED.
Best wishes for feeling a LOT better soon.
We just freaked out (mildly) with a 102.7 fever here – I think anything over 104 would have had me going absolutely insane.
Hope she feels better and you don’t get it!
Ugh. What an ordeal. I hope that you’re all feeling better by now. There no way to avoid being a wreck with all that going on. And what the deal with three finger sticks while she’s barfing? Grr.
And after writing this comment, I’m going to sanitize my keyboard. You know, just to be safe.
You just brought back some vivid memories of trying to get a kid who hadn’t been able to keep down even water for a week to swallow contrast dye for an upper GI. Why do we need to do the most horrible things to them when they’re feeling the worst?
Best of luck to you, Lil C, and the rest of the BBM clan!
