2nd Kyu
Testing was this morning; promotions are later in the week. I passed my test for 2nd kyu-two black stripes on my brown belt.
There were about 22 people testing today, mostly white belts going for second stripes or yellow belts. We have such a large group right now. When I started there was a decent sized group too, but my groups’ numbers have dropped tremendously. Some people moved; some people quit. After green and brown belts people seem to start dropping like flies.
There is a lot to remember as you move up in the ranks. Thankfully, I remembered it all today, which was a nice change from last time.
Today was the first time that I didn’t really get nervous at testing. I think that the blindfolded self defense was a big confidence builder for me and it gave me a boost I needed.
The one white belt who was an attacker the other night was testing for his yellow belt today. I asked him if his finger was o.k. from when I cracked it pretty good. He said his finger was fine; it was his knees that were hurting him. I had no recollection of hurting anyone’s knees so I asked him what I did. He told me that when he grabbed the front of my gi with both hands, I peeled him off and took him down unexpectedly. I told him I didn’t even realize I had done that, and told him I was sorry. He said it was no big deal. I have to admit I am feeling pretty good about the fact that I took a big guy down without even realizing it. It’s funny how your body just does things without you even realizing it. Muscle memory is so cool.
So testing is finished and I’ll have a new black stripe to add to my collection. There’s only one more test before black belt. I’ve got a lot of work to do.
Congratulations on making it to two stripes! The intermediate ranks do tend to thin the herd.
I just had defending blindfolded for my test last Saturday. I found out this week I kicked one of the guys where it counts. Fortunately he was wearing the required cup and I didn’t kick hard because, well, when you’re blindfolded you never know what you’re kicking. One of the masters remarked that he should have checked the blindfold for holes. I quipped “I’m a parent. I have eyes in the back of my head”!
Congratulations!!
Woo hoo! That’s excellent! I’m so glad to hear it went well. I think you are right– I’m sure that blindfolded thing was definitely a confidence booster. I had a school tournament today, and scores on my weapon freestyle routine (kamas) were exceptionally high, which makes me feel like I have a good chance at a big regional next week. My form(kata)…eh…well..you can read it later.
But that’s so fantastic. When do you anticipate or project that you will be earning your black belt? It’d be cool if it was around August, ’cause then we’d be getting ours at the same time!
Congrats!
COOL!! Congratulations-and did you wear one of your new gi’s?
Congratulations!
Wow what a feat! Nothing can bring your self confidence level faster than a black belt in karate. Keep up the good work!
Congrats!! I wish I knew a little more self defence. I’m thinkin maybe I wanna take a class one of these days. Ya know when I’m not pregnant anymore. LOL
Oh WOW! Congratulations, and FANTASTIC job!!!
Congratulations!
Keep up all the hard work and enjoy the way.
Shodan is just round the corner, then you can start at the begining all over again.
Best wishes
Well Done!

Osu!
Congratulations! Yay! Good for you!
Félicitations BBM!!!
We’re moving along at almost the same pace, I just did my second kyu in February… we should be BB at about the same time then – I am aiming for next fall – how about you? ;o)
However, to my big disappointment, I am presently on break from training because of a back injury… I am hoping it will not be too long. I was REALLY disappointed to have to cancell my participation in a regional competition hosted by my own club (next Sunday)… but I am working hard in therapy to be back in the game for the next big event in my region… the Quebec Open International Karate Championship (http://www.quebecopen.com/en/)… if I miss that one I will certainly cry :o(
I even get to fight some americains in this event :o) … lol lol
Congrats again on your second stripe!
Amitié,
Myrika
Congratulations!
