Sonicare for Kids
This is a compensated review from Sonicare for Kids and BlogHer.
I'll be honest. I always thought that the people who spent mucho dinero on toothbrushes that came in a box were insane. I mean, the dentist gives you a free one every six months. What did I need with one of those crazy Sonicare toothbrushes. More so, why would my kids ever need one?
People, Sonicare has made me a believer.
At first I was worried about whether or not my kids would go for it. Sonicare for Kids does not come shaped like a princess or a mermaid. It does have interchangeable panels for the front of it, but they're definitely more generic than your grocery store toothbrush. I wasn't sure I could get my girls to switch.
However, when it came, it was red and my girls liked that right away. It also came with two different toothbrush heads which was perfect considering one was for 4 year olds and the other was for bigger kids, 8+. My girls are easily able to tell their toothbrush head apart since one is red and the other is blue. They quickly learned how to pop their toothbrush head onto the Sonicare and get busy.
Right away, I fell in love with the Sonicare for Kids and it's special feature to make kids brush longer. Every minute, for four minutes, the toothbrush plays a little part of a song. When you complete the entire time, it plays the entire little tune. We went from brushing for only seconds to brushing for the full time overnight and I know that will make a big difference in their oral health.
The toothbrush comes with two settings and the girls can easily turn the toothbrush on with their recommended intensity by themselves. I thought it would take some time to get used to the Sonicare for Kids, but it has become a wonderful addition to our family and the girls' brushing routine.
I can speak for myself on this issue, as I also received a Sonicare FlexCare to try. It is like visiting the dentist every single day, twice a day and it's amazing. The clean that you get from it is completely unlike any other toothbrush I have ever tried. My teeth feel silky, the way they do when you leave the dentist. In fact, when I visited the dentist last week and told them we're using Sonicare's now, they were thrilled! They said they notice a big difference in their patients who use Sonicare's.
My only criticisms of the toothbrush are that one needs to be really careful with little ones. The toothbrush head for my 4-year old doesn't stay on the way it did when we got it. She says she didn't drop it or anything, but whatever held the head on tightly doesn't work anymore. Now we have to hold it on until we get a new toothbrush head. My only other criticism is that the Sonicare is pretty intense and one needs to make sure that when you turn it on, the toothbrush is in your mouth! If not, the spray from the toothpaste is going to make cleaning your vanity a daily thing. I happened to spray myself in the eye the first day I used it; but people, let me just tell you that you only make that mistake once. This shouldn't be a reason to prevent you from getting one yourself.
A Sonicare for Kids starter package starts at around $69.99. The package comes with two brush heads, three interchangeable plates for when your kids get bored with the looks of the toothbrush, a plug-in charger and complete instructions. You can find brush head replacements for around $21.99 for a package of two. A Sonicare for Kids toothbrush would make a great Christmas gift for kids.
I never understood why people would spend so much money on a toothbrush, but I now know that the family and I will be life-long converts. Thank you Sonicare and BlogHer for the opportunity to review these wonderful products!

BBM gives the Sonicare for Kids. . .
Well BBM, you have made me think I may need to get one. My kiddos aren’t too happy about brushing their teeth and I have had to hold them down, sing silly “brush your teeth” songs, and even, today, told on them at the dentist. It’s quite hard having two who despise brushing when I’m a crazy brush-flosser myself.
We’re still in the phrase of brushing the kids’ teeth for them, since they’re so little. It’s a smooth part of the bedtime routine now, but, boy howdy, did we have some fights with our son over it when he was a toddler.
I help my kids brush and then I go to work with a floss wand. My 8yo also uses a mouth rinse. Colin
I love my Sonicare and my son is absolutely brushing better with it. Now I just have to ask him if he brushed until the toothbrush turned off. Then I know he did it long enough!
I can’t wait to get my son this toothbrush. He always wants to use mine and thats wrong!
Wait, you mean my son should be brushing his teeth?!?! ๐
We used to have some huge battles in our house about the teeth brushing and our first few trips to the dentist involved only the counting of teeth. Now, though, we’ve made it such a part of the bedtime/wake up routine, he does it without a second thought.
Both of my older kids have had some serious battles with toothbrushing-hey they are stubborn like their dad:)We’ve tried the Disney toothbrushes which work for a little while. Sounds like Sonicare may be a good option. Hmmmm
I am really excited to try this product. I love anything that is new and updated. I think the fact that it plays a little of the song and then the entire thing sounds great. I hope it will encourage my kids to brush longer and better. Just getting them to brush is an event, but this sounds like fun.
I brush my kids’ teeth twice a day and use kid flossers on them nightly.
I blogged about this giveaway:

My 6-year-old uses a spinbrush and it seems to work well.
My son’s are older now and you still have to worry about dental hygiene but now you have the extra added problems associated with braces. I always have encouraged my kids to brush their teeth at least 2 times a day and more often if possible. Flossing is a must and limiting drinks with a lot of sugar.
my husband and I have the Sonicare but I didn’t know they made them for kids! We have 4 boys ages 3-9 each of which we have to fight with everyday to brush. I’ll def. be looking into this Sonicare for kids! thanks!
My dad was a dentist so good dental care was always part of my life. I was suprised how much I struggled with my own kids. My kids are pretty good about brushing their teeth. I try and make sure they brush every day
I use the sonicare. I think it is great that it is now offered for kids. It really does use a good job
My daughters are 6 and 5 and the rule is that they brush their teeth twice a day. In the morning, they get to do it themselves and in the evening, I do it for them. The dentist told us that kids can’t effectively brush completely on their own until they are much older!
I have a Sonicare and am excited to see that they’ve introduced a children’s version!
I let my boys watch their favorite show on tv with a toothbrush in hand at night. They dont even realize they’re brushing!!
I think I might be more of the school of which you belonged at first – kind of skeptical. I’d love to give it a try but finances just do not allow. My 11 yo son HATES to brush his teeth. Anything new and exciting would help with that. (But I must admit, winning the $100 gift card would be even better – then I’d have groceries so the kid would have better stuff to eat, getting his teeth dirtier to necessitate the Sonicare! (Hey, a girl’s gotta try, right?)
cute toothbrushes always seem to help, the ones with see through areas with floaty charms and glitter go over well!
We have the kids sing to each other – and when they are done with the song, they can stop brushing. Or you can actually use a timer too and have the kids set it.
I make sure they brush and “swish” w/ a flouride rinse twice per day…
I handle my son’s dental hygiene by making sure he brushes his teeth both morning and night.
We’ve tried the “Hannah Montana” singing toothbrush to keep us brushing until she’s finished with her song. I’ve tried to convince them both that they need to sing “Happy Birthday” in their head at least two times before they are finished brushing. Unfortunately, neither seems to keep them focused on the task consistently. I
Using the agent cool blue and some orange sticks that you rub on the teeth after brushing (these are from the dentist). My oldest has bad teeth and it is a contant struggle. Her sister has great teeth so she is frustrated by the difference between the two.
I walk my little one through each step and take over when he needs help. He’s becoming very independent, and likes to do most things himself, so I usually let him. Thanks for the great review.
Right now, the only way to get my kids to brush the full time they need to is to stand there and watch them. I have tried the light up toothbrushes that go out when the minute is up, the singing toothbrush, and fun toothbrushes left by Santa and the Tooth Fairy. Nothing lasts for very long around here. Maybe Santa needs to step up his game this year for the kiddos. We have a Sonicare for us grown-ups that we got from our dentist and we love it. I had no idea they made one for kids before reading this. I’ll go out and look for one for the holidays. Thanks!
We brush the little one’s teeth, and watch the older 1’s 2 make sure they don’t slack, and do a good job on brushing their teeth
My kids brush their teeth twice a day, once in the morning before school, and then again before bed. I have two 9 yr. olds who have established their routine, and a 3 yr. old… who is very independent and likes to ‘brush’ his teeth by himself. He will, in fact, brush 3 & 4 times a day quite often, as long as he gets to do it himself. The rule is he has to let me brush for him one of those times. The key to getting them started brushing and liking it, in my experience, has been to provide them with a ‘jr.’ type/flavor toothpaste which is much milder than standard ‘adult’ toothpaste. I’ve used sonicare in the past and absolutely loved it and am super excited to learn they have made one geared for the kids! Thanks!
It has just cost over $400 at the dentist. I wish we had seen this sooner.
Bubble gum flavored floss is a big hit, as well as a dentist who gives out toys for kids who don’t have cavities at each visit.
Brushing teeth has always been a fun time for my son! he loved watching mommy and daddy, and using a brush with water… then the simple toddler toothpaste, and now with regular toothpaste! It’s part of our bedtime and wake up routine everyday- and he reminds us if we forget!
We started with fun character brushes, then the one from crayola which lights up until you’ve “finshed” brushing… now he wants a new brush everytime we go to the store!
I keep their toothbrushes in the kitchen ๐ They all end up there in the morning for breakfast so as they get up from the table we brush their teeth.
I LOVE my sonic care toothbrush…and I think my son would like it, too! I didn’t even think about gettting one for him. Great review. Very informative!
I still brush my youngest ones’ teeth (he’s 15 months). But my 3 yr old, now that’s another story. Usually, we have a bit of a struggle because he likes to play with the toothbrush and use it on everything but his mouth. Hopefully, this will get better.
I still brush both of my girls teeth for them. Sometimes I’ll let them start, but then I need to come in and finish up and get in all the nooks and crannies. Seems like this brush would make it much easier!
I got them electric toothbrushes since it seems easier and funnier for them to enjoy brushing teeth ritual. But I got to admit that Sonicare sounds like a better option for my next purchase if I need to get them new ones.

I don’t have kids. But I have gotten much better dental checkups since I switched to an electric toothbrush.
I love my Sonicare. I am sure after watching me brush with mine, my 4 year old son would love his own. I usually end up letting him brush on his own and then go back after him.
I make sure they brush their teeth twice a day. They also floss and use mouthwash. I make sure they do that because I don’t want them to have and breath.

I try to add a little incentive by buying toothbrushes they like (barbie, mickey, etc) and flavored toothpaste. It seems to make it a wee bit easier and more enjoyable.
We use character toothbrushes!
The destist gave us a little sand timer to make sure the kids reach two minutes. However it always gets knocked over then we don’t know how long it’s been! The built in timer would be a nice addition.
My son (3 years old) is allowed to brush his own teeth, but he must let me “follow up”. That way I’m letting him learn to clean them (he does pretty good), yet I know they are getting as clean as they need to be when I finish.
Our 13 year old son still does a poor job at brushing his teeth, but as his birthday is this week, he’s suddenly starting to take interest in his grooming (including oral care).
As for his 6 year old brother, he’s only starting to brush on his own, since he became accustomed to having them brushed for him. He seems to do speed through it, so I am hoping we can persuade him to do it better than his brother has to date.
I have three kids 4 and under and just have plain ol’ toothbrushes for them. We use the Little Bear toothpaste for them. They practice brushing then daddy or I go over it. Usually they’re cooperative but you never know…
My girls are grown and handle their own dental care now. I do however have my grandsons living with me and they both love โtooth timeโ. Lil Man has his own special brush and toothpaste. He will brush for a while then I finish up for him. After he rinses he loves to smile really big and show his pearly whites. Lil Bit has just cut his first two teeth. Ever since he was born I would wash his gums with wash cloth but now that he has two front teeth I have a fingertip mini brush I use to brush those little teeth and we will slowly graduate him to a regular brush when he is older.
For some reason, brushing for a decent amount of time is hard for kids, even mine – and I’m a dentist! We’ve tried silly things but now I have to keep an eye on him. I actually do the brushing a few times a week because I’m sure he’s not hitting everything he should! He’s only 5 so I should give him a little break, huh? The sonicare is a great product! I’m so happy they’ve released one for kids!
I like to get toothpaste that tastes good and flavored dental floss–they’re only going to participate if it’s enjoyable!

The rule is to brush in the morning, before bedtime and then after every meal if possible. Flossing should be done everyday.

Well my son is not always willing to brush his teeth unless I tell him that they are starting to look yellow:) I know that it sounds mean, but you gotta do what you gotta do!
Even though my son is only 10 months, we still work on his dental hygiene! He has two little toothers on the bottom, and we use a “gum cleaner” to brush them!

Flavored products seem to help around our place. ๐
From day one, it has just been routine to brush in the morning and at night. No exceptions. This way, there is no battle over brushing, it’s just the way it is! My kids at 5 and 7 now so they pretty much handle brushing themselves, but I still check to make sure they did a good job!

We use timers for our children! They love them! Of course, we always check behind too!

my blog
We just make them brush twice a day. It is a house rule. If they don’t then we threaten them with the dentist which they hate. LOL
We all have battery-powered toothbrushes and make brushing a family activity. We all squish into the bathroom and do it together ๐
I blogged: http://ridingwithnohands.com/november-8th-weekly-roundup/
My son 8, brushes his own teeth twice a day (with a reminder), but I do check them periodically. If I don’t think he’s doing well then I scrub away. I need to get electric toothbrushes for us, I know he’d do a better job.
We use a timer for brushing followed by floss and a dental rinse. Twice a year I let the professional critique and give pointers.

I have to watch him brush or else it will not get done.
Both of my daughters have 2-3 different toothbrushes and 2-3 different toothpastes. They mix and match whatever combo they want. It gives them some control over the situation I guess. ๐

We made up a little song for our kids that lasts 2 minutes. They hum the song while brushing and when the song is over, they know they are done brushing. This guarantees they are at least brushing long enough and they are to touch each tooth front & back while brushing.
My baby is still young, but we are already letting her see my Husband and me brushing our teeth so it becomes a normal part of everyday life.
My husband and i both use sonic care. I would love to get them for my little ones.
My 10 month old has seven teeth, and it is all I can do to try to get a little baby toothbrush or washcloth in his mouth. He is so independent that I think he will really enjoy brushing, once he can do it hims
we started early and make it routine every single night. I also make up silly songs to sing while they brush.
