Have you ever had one of those days/weeks/months when you just feel exhausted, like you need a total break both mentally and physically? This is how I feel lately. With Kindergarten fast approaching, and a birthday party for Lil C that will be here before I know it. . . I am just completely burnt.
I’m also depressed that I’m going to have to start getting up early again. I am a night owl as evidenced by the times that I post. When I was a teacher, the absolute worst part of my job was the time I had to get up in the morning (o.k. maybe the second worst-first being all my lovely students with probation officers). Some might think I’m lazy, but my internal clock just works differently than everyone else’s-that or I just got hooked on Conan O’Brien and can’t give him up. Late at night is the only true "me" time I get, and like I said last week, it’s all about me!
Regardless, my life is about to change drastically. . . there will be school bake sales, parent/teacher conferences, open house night at the school, homework, fund raisers, shuttling to and from the school at ungodly hours. . .
Which is why I always love to escape over at Kailani’s place, The Pink Diary. One look at one of her pictures can mentally take you away. . . to Hawaii. And who wouldn’t want to go there? She LIVES there. I can’t think of a better place to live. Her kids are adorable. Her writing is always fun, and well, she’s an absolute sweetheart. She also just got a new blog design that looks completely fabulous. AND, she’s also one of my favorite people because she submitted a birth story that is short and sweet-the way natural labor should be (Don’t I wish!).
So, while I’m spending the day wallowing in the fact that I only have ONE. MORE. WEEKEND. before I have to look forward to weekends just so that I can sleep in a bit. . . go visit Kailani and tell her that the-wallowing-in-her-own-self-pity Black Belt Mama sent you.
Thanks to all the people who bid this week on renting my blog. I always choose the first person who bids, but never choose the "automatically accept first bid" thing just in case someone decides to bid on my blog who: thinks martial arts is stupid, spouts politics that I couldn’t possibly agree with or recommend that people read, or features non-family friendly content. I know the minute I would turn that option on, someone would bid who talks about putting "waza" in the "bunkai" and I would be scarred for life, as would my regular readers.
Don’t you just love when you find other people who think like you do? Although I haven’t read through all her archives as of yet because there are a great many, I’ve found some striking similarities between me and my new renter.
First, I found myself saying "Yes! YES!" as I was reading her rant about Victoria’s Secret and their policy about no nursing in the dressing rooms. There are a lot of ignorant people out there and my new renter, "Finding Yourself Despite Yourself" has no problem letting them know they’re being ignorant. I like that in renters; she’ll keep me on my toes.
Second, she has two little girls who are so adorable, and she allows them to eat food in the bathtub. Genius, as far as I’m concerned. Big I ate quite a few nectarines from the comfort of the kitchen sink back in the day, and I’m sure Lil C will do some fruit-eating in the sink or tub as well.
When I checked out her site I found funny posts including the one which lists things she’s found out about morning sickness, such as "A burp is never just a burp when you are 8 weeks pregnant". I also found posts that made me want to cry, like the one about her loss of a pregnancy. I also found EXCITEMENT about the pregnancy that is still new but becoming a part of the daily routine (morning sickness and all.)
If you’re interested in finding out more, go and give my renter a little love.
When I put up my blog for rent, I had no idea it would be so popular. I was flooded with bids from so many great blogs that I had a horrible time choosing. I thought I’d get one offer and take it. Instead there were six. I spent the day wringing my hands and worrying about how I was going to choose just one, and would I be hurting other people’s feeling, etc. etc.
I am a nice person and I have a horrible time telling people no, as evidenced by this. "Eeeny-meany-miney-mo. . . " didn’t work for me. I considered letting my daughter choose, and then I decided that I would move forward with the most fair method of all. . . early bird gets the worm. So, without further delay, I present to you my new renter who was the first bidder. . . Life or Something Like It. She is an absolute riot. From her post about intuitive technology to her battle with imaginary multiple personalities, she had me laughing out loud. She’ll make you laugh too. In fact, I’m kind of afraid you’ll like her better than you like me and won’t ever come back. Please come back, o.k.?
The second order of business is this warm fuzziness that The Pajama Mama started. Because I can’t give it justice on my own, I’m quoting her exactly below. She states the following:
"We’re so quick to point fingers, place
blame and criticize the people in our lives. It’s easier to point out a
fault than it is to praise a strength. It’s easier to mention something
that needs to be done better than it is to acknowledge something that’s
been done well.
Therefore, I christen today (and the next few days) “Bloggin’ Good Blogger Days”
in the blogging community. Your mission, shall you choose to accept it
(and you will), is to go to as many blogs as you can and point out at least
one good thing about the author of that blog. Do your best to give them
a warm fuzzy feeling. Show your appreciation, admiration or plain old
joy.
Tell them why something they did touched you, why a choice they made shows the true fabric of their moral being. Just go BE NICE to every blogger whose blog you read today. And don’t be shy, either!!
Plus, post an entry similar to this one on YOUR blog and ask people to leave warm fuzzies in your comments. Spread the love, people!
Maybe
if we take a week to engage in warm fuzzies, they will become a more
permanent part of our daily lives, both on and off the computer.
In review:
1. Leave me a warm fuzzy in my comments.
2. Post a similar entry (or copy and paste this one, giving credit to the Pajama Mama) on your own blog.
3. Leave a warm fuzzy on every blog you visit today.
4. Sit back, read your own warm fuzzies and feel, well, warm and fuzzy!
Enjoy!"
That PJ Mama is one warm and fuzzy gal. She’s got a great idea. If you’re into this whole warm and fuzziness business, please start with my renter and the other great blogs who wanted to rent here. I wish I could have had them all.
And just in case that wasn’t enough warm fuzziness for you, I give you the kittens my sister is caring for until they go to their new homes next week:
That’s not the flash; they really do have blue eyes.
Big I figured out how to hold them and fell in LOVE!
These are dog bowls, so you get the idea of how teeny tiny they are.
The kittens LOVED Lil C’s feet and she loved them right back.
If that’s not inspiration, I don’t know what is. Now go. . . be warm and fuzzy.
And if you’re feeling warm and fuzzy about your birth story, please submit it to me via email.
I have a tenant. Yes, I have entered the world of rental properties and I am determined to be a good landlord, not a slumlord. If you click on that little box over on the right side you can go visit my new tenant who is being a stellar tenant already, what with paying her rent on time, etc. Her thumbnail is not currently showing up, but she’s there. Her blog’s name is: Ramblings from the not-so-typical Stay at Home Mom.
I spent some time reading through her blog this morning and have found myself scratching my head wondering why I didn’t know about her blog before (and then quickly stopping that scratching because my arms are so sore from karate.) She’s got two little girls, close in age to mine actually; and she’s funny. Her Thursday Thirteen this week is hysterical because it is so true. You find yourself saying some crazy things when you’re a mama. Because you can always stand to find a new blog you like, go and check her out!
