One is the Lonliest Number
Despite the fact that we had a ton of street traffic all morning long before the Open House, we had only one taker actually show up at the scheduled time. The good news is that she stayed here for quite some time, sat at our kitchen table and talked about how she loves our house. The funny thing about it, is that she currently lives in the neighborhood where we’ll be building. She and her husband are looking to downsize, and we’re looking to super-size.
Although my realtor tends to almost always play down the interest level of potential buyers, he seemed very positive about this potential one and said he was going to speak with her agent. He mentioned something to me about possibly arranging a switch, as in she gets my house and I get hers.
My realtor was telling us yesterday about some calls he has fielded on our home recently. One of the interested callers kept him on the phone for 45 minutes telling him about how he’s currently renting but the rent is killing him. He then said, "What’s a guy to do when he’s on disability and has no job? How’s a guy like me supposed to pay rent like that?" Well, news flash, it’s probably easier to pay rent than it would be to buy my house without any income or livelihood.
One thing is for sure-my house seems to bring out the crazies. People who won’t make an offer until their elderly mother dies. People who think we’re giving away our house as part of charity, and then refuse to play the house buying game the right way. Eerie men who show up expecting me to personally escort them through my house.
I’ve said it before but it warrants saying one more time. I’ll be so glad when this is all over.
I’m sorry I showed up and expected you to personally escort me through your house and your closet.
Spring is in the air, school is winding down, and people are starting to get in the home buying frame of mind. It will happen, just believe. We got got an offer on Friday. We close on both houses on June 16th. Four more weeks and I can finally say my plight is over.
I never gave up on the house I wanted. We were rejected (and we offered full asking price – we just had a contingency, then the sellers got an offer they accepted and were going to closing, only to hit a financial snag so they asked us to resubmit as a back up. We did, but they told us everything was worked out and it was definetly going to close. Then it didn’t and our contract went into the primary position the same day we got an offer on this house.
It’s stressful. It’s nerve racking. You wonder why you ever thought this would be a good idea. But, try to keep positive. Put out there in the Universe that you will not accept defeat.
It will happen. When you get to the point where if it doesn’t happen now it wont happen, something will come through for you.
My mom has had some crazies too. She had a young woman who wouldn’t buy until her parents had seen the house but then nothing came of it. She had some people take flowers from her garden. It’s crazy!
That guy on disability, sadly, won’t find home ownership any cheaper. 🙁
If I wasn’t certain that you could totally kick their asses, I’d be a little worried here…
I do hope things finish up soon for you.
We were fortunate. From the listing hitting the MLS to accepting an offer–9 hours.
Best of luck and continued patience!
It’s going to happen soon. I’m sure of it. Otherwise I’ll have to come up there and start kicking some @ss.
I sure wish there was a way to prequalify and keep the crazies out, but how can you tell who is nutty and who is serious about home buying?? That little dude on disability is in a lot better state renting than he would be attempting to buy. He can afford rent a whole lot easier than he could afford to buy a house and pay escrow, PMI, etc.
Have you tried burying a statue of a St. Joseph in your front yard? I’ve heard from a couple of people that if you bury a statue of St. Joseph in your yard, you’ll see your house soon.
I hope the pieces start to fall into place for you guys! When we sold our old house the person who bought it was a closet nut…She tried to dig up the invisible pet fence that we had put in and electruded herself…She also had a dog that she literally let eat the house.
