Ahhh. . .
I have arrived. . .
My family and I are on vacation this week in the lovely Outer Banks of North Carolina. We rented a new house this year, one with a pool and hot tub and it is just. . . well. . . ahhh. . .
We arrived here today after visiting some good friends in Dover, DE for the weekend. The drive was rather uneventful, just the way I like it. Of course, I did knowingly allow the girls to eat about 4000 M&M’s during the drive, but the way I see it? It was all to secure my sanity.
Sanity is good.
I arrived here only hours ago, but I’ve already done my pilates and practiced my sai kata’s. Yes, I managed to sneak my sai, nunchaku, and tunfa into my suitcase. Insert big eye roll from Mr. BBM here. Some may use the table in the bedroom for sunscreen. Mine is for my stash of weapons. It makes me cool. . . obsessive but cool.
I just couldn’t imagine not being able to practice with them for two weeks after I’ve been working so hard to get in good shape and make sure the kata’s and all their parts are in there. And who wouldn’t jump at an opportunity to take a set of sai out on the beach and actually be able to do the throw into the sand???
Mr. BBM says I’m a dork. I say, I’m not the one who has memorized 4,278 useless facts about Star Wars, so there.
If you’ve been a reader here for a while now, you know that last year’s vacation was quite eventful and not in the good way. I’m looking forward to having a very uneventful week; and I’ll be sure to bore you to tears with it if I can manage to put my lime and beer down and drag my derriere out of the hot tub for more than a few minutes at a time.
Oh, and if you happen to be in the Outer Banks right now and you see a crazy blonde chick doing kata in a swimsuit. . . yeah, that’s probably me. And no, there will not be pictures documenting such an event, so don’t even bother asking.
Just imagine all the old masters who trained those katas on the beaches of Okinawa.
Seikichi Odo
Shigeru Nakamura
Shinpo Matayoshi
Mitsuo Kakazu
oooh. Very inspiring! Eizo Shimabuku used to teach his students to listen to the rhythms of the ocean and beach and let their kata mingle in that timing. perhaps you try it too.
Hey, memorizing 4,278 facts about Star Wars doesn’t make you a dork….does it?
Have a great time!
Kata in a swimsuit.. Wow.. I can’t picture it without cracking a smile. Where would that satisfying sound of the “crack” of Gi material come from? You might have to make sound effects with your mouth to compensate. Ha ha ha.
Have a most pleasant, relaxing, and wonderful vacation.

You just shattered the dreams of married men everywhere.
🙂
Anyhow, enjoy your vacation!
Ah yes, enjoy your vacay!
Congratulations on staying sane during the trip. Here’s hoping that you can stay sane during your vacation.
That is awesome that you brought some weapons! I’m sure training on the beach will be a blast. Oh, and I never knew that Mr. BBM was so cool! While I personally chose to memorize everything about “Star Trek” and not “Star Wars”, didn’t you see “Galaxy Quest”? These memorized facts might save the world when needed on the Millenium Falcon or the Enterprise!
I’m pretty sure my husband is more of a dork than yours knowing well OVER 5,000 useless facts about Star Wars.
p.s. Training on the beach in a swimsuit sounds sooo cool! *bow*
Have a blast!!!! And don’t eat at that restaurant!
Have a blast!!!! And don’t eat at that restaurant!
Doesn’t anyone quote the true classics anymore? Caddyshack, Fletch, or Animal House!!!
Have a nice vacation BBM and indulge with a picture if you can.
The best part of training on the beach is when you get too hot you just take swim. There’s something about doing a kata with the sound waves in the background…
The worst part is every person passing nearby want to ask you : “What you are doing?”, “Are you a black belt?”, …
Have a great vacation! Have fun for all us stuck at work!
Too funny, I just complained about vacationing in that exact area when I responded to your previous post! Has any civilization arrived there yet? Restaurants? Shops? Walgreens – anything?
Sometimes I practice kicks at the playground. My kids find it very funny.
that sounds like an awesome time. i think it’s great that you have something you are committed to and that makes you feel so good. why should you stop practicing just because you are on vacation?
i’d love to soak in a hot tub for a week and prune myself!
We used to go to the Outer Banks of N.C. every summer. I love it there! We stayed in Kill Devil Hills and the ocean was always so warm. I miss it!
